Upper Austria is the nation’s leading region with regard to industry, exports and technology. This ranking has been systematically consolidated by means of strategic programmes. As early as 1998, the first strategic programme, “Upper Austria 2000+” was prepared and implemented, and this was then followed by the “Innovative Upper Austria 2010” programme, which ran from mid-2005 until mid-2010.

The beginning of 2009 saw the commencement of work on the further development of the programme for the period from July1, 2010 to December 31, 2013.

The new strategic economic and research programme, which bears the name “Innovative Upper Austria 2010plus”, interlocks smoothly with its predecessor and incorporates 37 innovative and effective measures in five thematic areas (Research & Development, Professions & Careers, Networks, the Upper Austria Economic and Innovation Location, the EU).
